Fleet Tracking for Safety

Almost all managers and supervisors can identify with the saying “… when the cat’s away, the mice will play!” It has always been funny to me how universally true this can be and yet how offensive it can be to the mice.

I know when this saying was used against me in the past, I instantly became defensive. But that’s just the nature of things. For me, the root of the concept is that workers perform better when they know they are being measured.

I liken it to driving. (As a transportation industry guy… go figure!) When I’m driving next to a police car, I’m much more attentive to my speed than when I’m on a long stretch of road all alone. If my performance was being judged in terms of my adherence to the speed limit, I would perform at my peak when a police car was in view.

So what does this have to do with fleet tracking?

Safety is hugely important to fleet managers and business owners, but a lot of that is in the hands of the drivers. You can’t be everywhere at all times, but you want to make sure that your drivers are always performing at their best, and that’s when a fleet vehicle tracking solution comes into play.

When your drivers know their performance is actively being tracked and measured, their performance increases. And when drivers perform at their best, fleet safety increases.
